Learn about the Nanaimo Men’s Shed
The Nanaimo and District Men’s Shed Society is looking for a few men interested in creating a peer-run organization of volunteers in a place where men can do some hands-on building and tinkering in a congenial setting. As part of a working committee, you will help establish a positive, safe and inclusive environment for men who gather regularly to socialize, share skills, network and form new friendships.
The Nanaimo Men’s Shed will be like a larger version of a typical man’s work shed found in a lot of backyards where they are outfitted with a workbench and a variety of power and hand tools. But this Shed will also have space to sit and relax, enjoy a chat over a cup of coffee, or perhaps play a game. By being intentionally informal in approach, welcoming men from all walks of life, and working ‘shoulder to shoulder’, the members of this Shed will help each other promote an active and healthy lifestyle. It’s been shown that having a sense of purpose can help deal with feelings of loneliness, depression, isolation, bereavement or low esteem.
By being part of an international phenomenon that originated in Australia in the 1990’s, the Nanaimo Men’s Shed will join over 3,000 Sheds in12 countries…including 35 right here in BC.
If you’re interested, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include your name, phone number, what skills you would bring to the Shed, and why you want to participate on the working group.
