Four Tips for Positive Mental Health
As summer comes to an end and we prepare for the arrival of the chilly, darker months, it is important to stay kind with ourselves and practice habits that facilitate a healthy mindset.
Here are four tips for positive mental health:
- Try to find at least 15 minutes every day for yourself. This means a time completely focused on you; time when you aren’t tending to others’ needs or desires. Ask yourself, what do you need more of? When was the last time you listened to your favourite song? Read your favourite book? Whether you meditate for 15 minutes or watch a silly YouTube video, it is important to take part of the day to show up for yourself. Self-care is an important aspect to a balanced life.
- Drink more water! We could all do better when it comes to hydration. Staying hydrated with life-nourishing water is so important for our mental health. With brains and hearts composed of 73% water, you can see the correlation. When we drink water, we flush out toxins and inflammation, while providing energy sources for our brain, which in turn improves brain function. So stay hydrated! Reach for that cold glass of water right now; you won’t regret it.
- Keep a gratitude journal and speak positive affirmations. Taking stock of what is important to you can be such a great way to shine light on your life and reconnect with the simply joys. This, combined with positive affirmations, can be such a huge factor to increasing your mental health. Start simple with positive affirmations: Tell yourself, “I am strong, I am whole, I am enough.” Do this every morning in front of the mirror and see for yourself as these simple words start to have major effect on your very core self.
- Our last and most important tip for positive mental health is…
