NFLA Better at Home Gabriola Island is a provincially funded program managed by the United Way and Hosted by Nanaimo Family Life. All services are provided by contractors and volunteers who live on the island. Since every region that NFLA Better at Home serves is unique, the program is tailored specifically to the needs of Gabriola residents. If you are 65 or over, our Community Development Worker will come to your home and assess your particular needs and subsidized services are based upon your most recent tax return.
NFLA Better at Home Gabriola Island provides the following services:
- Light Housekeeping – including assistance with vacuuming, tidying and bathrooms. We assist our clients with a variety of light tasks helping to maintain independence and giving a hand with some of the more challenging tasks.
- Local Shopping Services – our team is happy to shop for you or take you to get your groceries at our local markets. Our team is happy to help bring the groceries inside and help you to put them away.
- Transportation – for those who are no longer driving, or just need a bit of help getting to our medical clinic, local services, and assorted appointments, our in-town service is provided by our local contractors.
- Light Yard Work – while we don’t mow lawns or do heavy gardening, we do want to help with simple tasks like planting flower or vegetable boxes or bringing in firewood from the outdoors.
We look forward to expanding our services in the region. If you are interested in services or are looking for volunteer opportunities we’d love to hear from you! For more information about services on Gabriola Island please contact our Community Development Worker – Elizabeth Holland at 250 754-3331
