Food Security Targeted Funds for Older Adults

Funded by:

The programs under the Food Security Targeted Funds provide accessible food resources to older adults in the community. This includes a volunteer grocery shopping service as well as food bank collection and delivery. The seniors we support are particularly vulnerable due to their inability to get themselves to the grocery stores and/or food bank depot locations. These older adults are also experiencing financial hardships, lack of access to technology, and/or isolation. This program helps older adults age independently in their homes, regardless of their barriers.

Grocery Shopping

In this program, volunteers collect client grocery lists over the phone and complete the shopping at Bowen Road’s Country Grocer. The groceries are then delivered to the clients’ homes.

Food Bank Collection and Delivery

Items are collected from the Loaves and Fishes warehouse to create weekly food hampers. In partnership with Country Grocer, we supplement these hampers with essential items including milk, meat, and produce. Volunteers deliver the food packages directly to clients’ homes.
