Become an Individual/Couples Counsellor

The purpose of our Volunteer Counselling Services are to provide affordable and accessible counselling services that support and enhance the coping abilities of individuals and families.

Each year we recruit twelve  individuals from diverse backgrounds who are committed to attending and completing our intensive training program and returning 100 hours of service to the community.  You are required to invest $400 into this training (valued at $2,250.00). All training dates require mandatory attendance. There are no exceptions! If participants are sick and unable to attend, they are guaranteed a placement in the next training.

Training Requirements:  Those interested in becoming a Volunteer Counsellor must have completed Level 1 & 2 Counselling Training (available through Vancouver Island University. Link to courses here: https://pdt.viu.ca/counselling-skills-courses) or an equivalency of 48 hours of counselor training.  If you don’t have the prerequisites, contact the coordinator at m_maarika@nflabc.org.
